In our most recent “10 Second Survey” we asked our members about their Christmas plans. 50% of respondents were hosting Christmas dinner at their place, a quarter of these were entertaining more than 10 guests. It was also found that the giving of gifts was 4 times more popular that receiving, doubled with the fact that 40% of respondents routinely spend over their Christmas allocated budget definitely indicates that Christmas is the day of giving. Our 10 second Survey focused on renewable energy this week. 50% of respondents were not satisfied with the current state of Australia’s renewable projects, the majority didn’t believe that Julia Gillard’s Carbon Tax was the answer either with only 20% supporting the new bill. There was a split decision between what the solution is or even if there is a solution to the world’s growing reliance on electricity. This past week’s 10 second Survey is about eating habits of the average Sydneysider. Fortunately, the results were promising with an inclination towards buying groceries which were a balance between price and healthfulness. Over 50% rarely eat out but when they did, the preferences were towards Asian foods, particularly Chinese (28%) and Thai (23%). A surprising result from this survey is that from the sample taken only 1% of people eat out every day. This week’s Ten Second Survey from Great Sites asked people which TV how much they liked the TV shows MasterChef, The Bock and Underbelly. One in five that love MasterChef consider themselves great cooks, but that is also true for those who hate the show. When we asked about the Block, most people (over three quarters) said they were getting by with their DIY skills. In the group of people that believe they are quite skilled (McGyver himself) there are more that dislike the Block than that actually like it. Over 70 per cent of all members said they were 'law abiding citizens', with 1 in 3 being 'streetwise'. Equal shares liked and hated Underbelly. Great Research surveyed 750 Australians on what cars they drive and their political preference. Those who said they support the Greens live up to it: nearly 18% did not have a car, compared to only 4% of Liberal supporters. The most popular car brand for Labor voters was a Holden, followed by Ford. For Liberals it was Toyota followed by Holden. In South Australia, Victoria, Western Australia and Tasmania Holden was the most popular brand, whereas in New South Wales, Queensland, and in the territories Toyota was more popular.

Both in VIC and QLD the biggest group said they were ‘under average intelligence’ whereas in NSW the biggest group, 34% said they were smarter than everyone else. The majority of drivers said that when thinking about road rage, they were most likely to control their emotions (81%), with 12% saying they are likely to express road rage versus 6% being on the receiving end. There was no big difference between men or women, but there was a clear generational divide: one in four of Great Sites members between 18 and 34 say they are likely to express road rage, but only 1 in 12 of those over 55 said so. The most verbally aggressive drivers are found in NSW.

Great Research conducted a Ten Second Survey that showed men were almost twice as likely as women to spend over $100 on Mother’s Day. We asked a total of 5424 people between 4 and 11 May. Most members answered they would spend between $20 and $50 on the occasion. Older members were more likely to answer they would cook or agree with “money can’t buy love, a kiss will do just fine!”

The Easter Ten Second Survey showed that one in twenty Australians tried to catch the Easter Bunny over the long Easter Weekend. We asked a total of 6025 people in the week before Easter how they were spending the weekend. The most common activity was to stay at home, followed by visiting family, or booking a short stay. Men were more likely to go overseas than women were and hatching an Easter Egg was more popular in ACT than in any other state.
